MISSION STATEMENT
To provide American women and their families living in Lebanon a sense of American culture and tradition, as well as giving AWC members the opportunity to contribute to the Lebanese society through charitable and social activities.
ABOUT US
The American Women’s Club of Lebanon (AWC) was founded in 1953. In those early years, most of the women were stay-at-home mothers, sharing information about relocating to Lebanon and its culture.
Over the years, the needs of the club evolved like the women. Today members hold not only American passports but also passports from other countries. Our members are mothers and grandmothers; they work, own their own businesses, speak many languages and have even relocated to other countries before their move to Lebanon. Through the AWC, members are able to exchange ideas, gain friendships, find support, and celebrate the American spirit while helping to support local causes.
Social programs, cultural exploration and charity events are the main activities of the club. We hold general meetings monthly and often feature a speaker on topics of interest. In addition to the general meeting, leaders of our various activity groups (i.e. book clubs, cooking, fitness classes, sewing and crafts, cultural events, etc.) plan their own meetings each month or two. Newsletters, email and WhatsApp groups keep the members up to date with all activities and emergency news in the country. Women are encouraged to pursue their interests through the various committees and to take part in all our charity work through the Caring Committee. Over the years we have given more than $600,000 (in cash and in kind) towards children’s education, transportation, food, shelter, medical services and care throughout Lebanon.
Our information and connections don’t stop in Lebanon. AWC is a proud member of the Federation of American Women's Clubs Overseas (FAWCO), an international organization bringing together American Women’s Clubs throughout the world. This gives each member of AWC the opportunity to connect with those women outside of Lebanon who share similar concerns, passions and interests in addition to participating in the many foundations that are part of FAWCO's focus. This membership has extra benefits for those women who leave Lebanon for another country. They are leaving the comfort of AWC for a FAWCO sister club.
Join us at a meeting and become a member. Be part of our history and our AWC community.
